The man who doesn’t sleep
Some people think of me as the man who doesn’t sleep. Last night was certainly one of those occasions.
Once again I found (or rather was told about) problems with AccMan. It seems some security issues have arisen and now I am faced with a massive backup and restore problem. All part of life’s rich tapestry you might think but no fun when you’ve accumulated over 3,200 posts, &,000+ comments, attachments and goodness knows what else.
Unfortunately, Wordpress (which provides the backbone for AccMan) does not have a graceful way of importing what amounts to 15MB of data. Instead, it has to be broken up into bite sized pieces and even then it chokes on more than 120 or so entries, requiring continued refreshes. Not much fun I have to say.
Anyhoo – look forward to more service outages while I work through and resolve the problems. In the meantime, I am stoking up on coffee

The last few weeks I’ve had a number of requests from vendors wanting to put posts onto AccMan. I don’t allow that. Vendors are free to sponsor the site as per the sidebar but that’s it. Here’s why:I’ve always wanted to maintain 100% editorial control. My site, ...continue

Not mainstream AccMan but needs to be said:Earlier today I listened into the senate (?) deliberations around the Lehman failure. I was shocked. The politically charged bi-partisan discussion was a disgrace to the intelligence of the American people and, for that matter, the rest of the world. ...continue

Earlier today I took a call from a UK taxpayer whose notice of coding is incorrect. The person is over 80 years of age and a widower. The tax office issued a new notice of coding for 2010-11 tax year that says he’s married. That’s news to ...continue

Citigroup is speculating whether Sage will dispose of its US healthcare business. AccountancyAge conflates that to mean its entire US operation:Citigroup analysts said Sage stock was undervalued and speculated whether the company would sell its US arm.“Sage has been de-rated as it is widely viewed as ex-growth. ...continue

David Terrar is playing host to a family of urban fox cubs. It is saying something when foxes, which I understand to be usually shy and retiring creatures, feel confident enough to set up home in our back gardens. And so it is with SaaS. Services are ...continue

When I started AccMan, one of the things I wanted to write about was professional ethics. In the meantime, other voices have emerged that know far more about the topic than I will ever likely know. One of those is Francine McKenna with whom I’ve had a ...continue
